USA WEEKEND-Billboard Poll

Best lyrics of this generation
By Tamara Conniff, Billboard executive editor

Read the lyrics of Carey's winning song and the rest of the songs on "Billboard's" top 10 list.
What are the best song lyrics of the past 13 years? The answer came from more than 5,000 music fans who voted in a lyrics poll by Billboard and USA WEEKEND at Billboard.com. Although all the lyrics of the songs listed below translated into hits, it was no surprise that the most votes, 33%, went to Mariah Carey's We Belong Together.

Carey knows how to create lyrical magic by writing incredible songs that really speak to the masses. The proof: "We Belong Together" was the "Hot 100 Song of the Year" at "Billboard's 2005 Music Awards," and it was far and away the biggest hit of last year.

Here, your poll results:

1. "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey (2005)

2. "Smooth," Santana, featuring Rob Thomas (1999)

3. "Fallin'," Alicia Keys (2001)

4. "Lose Yourself," Eminem (2002)

5. "Hey Ya!," Outkast (2003)

6. "Stay," Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories (1994)

7. "Gangsta's Paradise," Coolio (1995)

8. "Missing," Everything but the Girl (1994)

9. "No Scrubs," TLC (1999)

10. "Family Affair," Mary J. Blige (2001)

Read the lyrics of Carey's winning song and the rest of the songs on "Billboard's" top 10 list.
