MAKE A
DIFFERENCE DAY

October 25, 2008

Plan now to join in

Here's your chance to be a part as millions help others.

Two weeks and counting to Make A Difference Day 2008. Across the country, millions are gearing up to spend Oct. 25 lending a hand in their communities.

It's not too late for you to join the action. And two new Make A Difference Day partners can help you be part of the groundswell of giving.

The Outdoor Foundation is funding a new award to recognize projects that encourage kids to get outside. The organization will give a $1,500 donation to one volunteer's chosen charity in recognition of a project that inspires children to take part in outdoor activities, gets them to connect with nature or teaches them the health benefits of being outside.

"We're so excited to partner with USA WEEKEND on this terrific program," says Christine Fanning, executive director of the Outdoor Foundation. "This is a great opportunity for young people to discover, explore and experience the wonders of our great outdoors."

The Outdoor Foundation's mission is to inspire and grow future generations of outdoor enthusiasts.

Mothers already drive much of the action on Make A Difference Day, and this year they can network locally and nationwide at the new MomsLikeMe.com. This online meeting spot for moms is spotlighting Make A Difference Day with group chats, photos and consultations from USA WEEKEND staff members.

Everyone can find links to tools, tips and other resources for planning and organizing a Make A Difference Day project on the Web at makeadifferenceday.com.

The Outdoor Foundation and its partners support projects that reconnect children and nature, like this program at the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex in California.
